Orthopedics and Sports Medicine

Cary Medical Center's Sports Medicine program is a comprehensive and innovative healthcare service that includes the assessment, prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries to athletes.  Our sports medicine team, which includes two Certified Licensed Athletic Trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and physicians, provide services to 5 area high schools.  Our athletic trainers also provide on-site medical supervision at various sporting events, including local basketball, baseball, soccer, skiing, track and field, wrestling, and volleyball competitions.

Hours of Service
In addition to clinic hours Monday through Friday, our athletic trainers attend numerous sporting events to provide on-site evaluation and treatment of injuries.  For more information about sports medicine services, you may contact our Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Services provided
While athletic trainers work under the supervision of a licensed physician, they are usually the first healthcare provider on the scene when a sports-related injury occurs.  For this reason, our athletic trainers are very experienced in recognizing and assessing sports injuries and are trained to provide immediate care when needed.  Additionally, they are often responsible for developing and implementing the plan of care throughout the athlete's entire treatment and rehabilitation.  This includes working closely with the athlete, their family, the athlete's coach and personal physician, and other healthcare specialists to coordinate and customize the recovery plan.

Another extensive area of responsibility for our sports medicine team is the prevention of injury.  The team often conducts clinics and education sessions for athletes, coaches, and other medical professionals to advise them on the appropriate use of equipment, such as braces, tape, and bandages; developing conditioning programs; and proper body mechanics.

Our Sports Medicine service is provided through our Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine Department, which is located in our Rehabilitation Center on the Cary Medical Center campus.  At the entrance of the hospital driveway, yield right.  The Center is a separate building just west of the hospital.   If you require assistance or are unfamiliar with our facility, our customer service volunteers would be happy to escort you to the department.
