Family Practice

A family practitioner, also known as a general practitioner or family physician, provides primary care to patients of all ages typically in an outpatient setting or private practice. These physicians diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, as well as provide education and therapies to prevent illness and injury. Family practitioners often provide healthcare services such as annual physicals, disease management, follow-up care for hospitalized patients, and minor surgeries that can be performed in an outpatient setting. Family practitioners may be an MD (Doctor of Medicine) or a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy); additionally physician assistants (PA) and Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) often provide primary care under the direction of a physician.
