|Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation|
Cary Medical Center's cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program includes exercise sessions and health education for people who have had a heart attack, Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery, angioplasty, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, emphysema, asthma, or other types of heart or lung disease.
The program has three phases. Phase I begins while the patient is in the hospital. The patient is assessed and the rehabilitation plan is developed and implemented. Each plan is personalized to best suit the patient's disease, fitness level, age, and other medical factors. Phase II is designed for participants who are not hospitalized, but who would benefit from supervised exercise sessions three times per week for 8 - 12 weeks. Phase III continues with a maintenance exercise program; the participant may continue this phase for as long as they want or deem necessary.
In each phase of the program, participants receive education and counseling about nutrition, exercise, alternative therapies, and other health topics from that can improve their rehabilitation success. The department is staffed by a team of specially trained medical professionals and the program is under the supervision one of our Internal Medicine physicians.
Our Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACPR). This national certification signifies that our program meets or exceeds the high quality standards set by the AACPR.

Under the supervision of a cardiologist, a monthly Pacemaker Clinic is also offered at Cary Medical Center. A new Pacemaker Telephone Check Service allows people to have their pacemaker checked locally. For more information, call 498-1365.
From the main entrance at Cary Medical Center, the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation department is located just a short distance down the main hallway on the left.
